Electronic waste

This is an interesting article about what happens to of some of the electronic devices that we discard everyday. I can't prove that any of this is true, but if you look at the photos at the website, things don't look good. Given the level of corruption in both industrialized and third world countries, it would seem likely that this really is going on. And even if it isn't, do you want tons of toxic chemicals from millions of old electronic gadgets in the garbage dump in your town? Where do you think your garbage goes?

I believe that in the best interest of the world as whole, we must budget money for the responsible disposal of e-waste just as we budget money to buy electronics in the first place. I don't think that humans can destroy the Earth; we are far to powerless to do that. But I do think we can muck it up enough to shorten our own existence. Certainly the people in China and other nations are suffering this fate right now.

Make your own decision, and think about it when you figure out what to do with that old computer monitor.
