hobbies

Hobbies come and go. The best thing about hobbies is that sometimes you can shelve them and come back later. Here are some of the things I've spent time with over the years:

I collect Wacky Packages, the trading cards/stickers originally from the 1960's and 70's. In 2004, Topps issued the first series of a totally new batch of Wackies. This was very well received and Topps went on to release several other new series. Many of the people who collected the stickers in their youth are now buying the new series. This site is a great resource for everything Wacky related.

I put this page together to provide information about Beavis and Butthead trading cards from both Topps and Fleer from the early 1990's.

I enjoy drinking and learning about quality imported and American beer. I collect beer bottles and cans (90% bottles). I'm always eager to get bottles from far away places. While I don't keep an avid accounting of the collection anymore, at last count there were 2200 bottles and cans.

I really enjoy operating, building, and learning about computers. I was first hooked when I learned to use an Apple II+ back in the 4th grade in 1982. When I sent my first Internet email in 1990, I was hooked again. Now I work with computers for a living and it's not always fun anymore.

Gardening and home improvement are other hobbies that take up a lot of my time. I enjoy composting, although my work with that has ceased lately due to lack of time. I also do a fair amount of woodworking and home improvement and remodeling when I have the chance to dedicate larger blocks of time. When I was younger, I spent a lot of time building with Lego blocks. I love the beach.

I drove a 1992 Chevy pickup for a decade and a half. It was an emotional ending.

Recently I have been into homebrewing and hypermiling

After getting back into homebrewing, I put together the Houston brewpub birth and death page that details the rise and fall of brewpubs in Houston.
