We took a 3 day trip to San Antonio this summer with the intent of visiting Sea World. It was a hard trip because Rob was disagreeable much of the time and had to be carried out of the park on the second day. I'll never forget walking through the crowds with him over my shoulder kicking and screaming. It was of course also very hot and the park was packed with people. We did have some fun and got some great photos there and at some other locations too. Rob got to ride his first roller coaster, a short steel coaster. We rode it once each day.
I think the kids had as much fun running around the hotel, touring the hotel, and partaking of the free hotel breakfasts as they did at Sea World. Oh, they were also highly impressed with the glass elevators. One problem was getting everyone to sleep in the same hotel room. We basically had to keep the kids up until we were all tired, and then we all tried to go to sleep at once. It of course took an hour before the kids actually went to sleep.
Oh, the second night at the hotel we watched a documentary on the History Channel about fuel deliveries to remote towns in Alaska and the challenges faced in that climate. Rob was rivited to the screen and so was I. I think Penny enjoyed 60 minutes of no child noise. Rob talked about that show in vivid detail the next day. We don't have cable so it's rare we ever see shows like this.

We drove up on a Saturday morning and were all pretty happy. By the time we got through one exhibit we were soaked in sweat and glad to sit down. |
Lots of fish. |
This was a dolphin and diving show. Kind of neat. |
After half a day at Sea World, we hit Chili's for dinner and it was good to sit down for a while. |
After an already stressful day at Sea World, the kids ran out of control halfway through dinner. So I stopped to buy beer on the way back to the hotel. |
I started off with a tasty peach lambic in a classy plastic hotel cup. The hotel was kind enough to bring up a corkscrew. |
On day two, we hit the one water attraction that was suitable for small kids and they loved it. |
I could have played there too but couldn't get the camera wet. |
There was a huge rope and tunnel climbing thing that Rob and I went through. It was a lot of fun but I killed my knees crawling through all of the tunnels. |
Rob's dim mood is visible here, in spite of the Shamu show that was somewhat interesting. |
Yes that's a real aminal. Their skin was so smooth they looked fake. |
The park was super crowded on the first day, and started filling up fast on the second day. One day we left a show and got split up. There were so many people it took 3 cell phone calls between Penny and I before we re-connected, although we were only about 50 feet apart. |
After a non-nap for Andrew at the hotel, we headed out for the Riverwalk and that was fun. In Blair fashion, we happened upon the trash barge and enjoyed watching the operator spend 10 minutes trying to fish some guy's cell phone out of the river. He never found it but we enjoyed chatting with the barge guy. He had some interesting stories. |
Smile. |
In a rare photo, the photographer is photographed. |
On the last day, we hit the Japanese Tea garden on the way out of town. |
Luckily we arrived and the weather was overcast and not too hot yet. |
By the time we had toured the whole place the sun was out and we were ready to leave. The kids enjoyed running around the place and Rob acted mostly OK up until the end. It was a good morning exercise for them and made for a peaceful drive home with a good nap for Andrew. |

A parting shot... |
